The Woman I Want To Be

Step Inside My Closet - The Woman I Want To Be - Diane von Furstenberg, DVF, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Steve Madden
I have been anxiously awaiting to write and share this post. Diane von Furstenberg is obviously an ultimate role model and style icon to women and fashion lovers everywhere. I recently just finished her book, The Woman I Wanted To Be, and am completely transfixed with her journey to become the woman she wanted to be in life. I can't express how many highlighted notes and bookmarks fill up my book due to the amount of wisdom that is within it.

DVF stresses that confidence, knowledge, character, strength, and style is what makes you beautiful. Being the woman you want and inspire to be is what makes you beautiful.

"The way you look is important, but who you are and how you project it is eventually who you will become and how you will appear."

She taught me that passion and persistence is what leads you to achieve your dreams. You cannot sit idle in order to make your dreams come true, but work hard. Her story of believing in her suitcase of wrap dresses, going door to door at department stores, and then building her brand up to become an international phenomenon and the president of the CFDA is truly inspiring. She had a mindset of the woman she wanted to be, and made it happen.

"Sometimes there are doors that will open and you think it is not an important door and yet it is - so it's very important to be curious and pay attention, because sometimes you learn and you don't even know you're learning."

Feel like a woman, wear a dress! is what I thought of when I wore this classic wrap dress by DVF. The jersey silk fabric clings to your skin, but the structured nature of the dress makes you feel sexy and strong at the same time. It is although that you feel like you can conquer the world.

Since black, white, and pink are the core colors of DVF, it was essential to mix it up and add a pop of color to the outfit with this clutch from Kate Spade New York. I slipped on my go-to classic pair of black pumps by Steve Madden and thin silver hoops from Michael Kors - and voila! A DVF girl emerged! Not only does this dress make you feel powerful, but it makes you feel very joie de vivre!

Through all of her failures and successes, she stayed true to herself, which is something that I admire and is something that has been taught to me within my family. After reading her book, it made me think...who is the woman I want to be? The woman I want to be is based off of my role models in life - my mother and my sister. They emit strength, intelligence, style, beauty, joy, and love. They both carry on my grandmother's wisdom and strength. They help shape me into the woman I want to be, encourage me everyday and are the biggest and most valuable support system in my life. They work hard and put everyone else before themselves. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be where I am today or on the way to a future I want to fulfill. I am inspired by them everyday and they are both the woman I want to be.

An Eye For Fashion

For contact wearers like me, wearing your glasses isn't always your go-to option. I mean, the point of getting contacts was to limit wearing your glasses. That being said, I never really liked wearing glasses in public, until I realized how cute a pair of frames could look with an outfit.

When I first was introduced to GlassesShop, I got giddy over the vast selections of prescription sunglasses, prescription eyeglasses, and more to choose from. It was like a far or near sighted kid in a candy store, but with items that could make them not only see the world around them through crisp vision, but add style and show their personality with the frames they choose. I know what you're thinking, because I thought about it too, aren't prescription sunglasses and eyeglasses expensive? Why not just stick with the clunky pair I have now? Never fear, GlassesShop offers extremely inexpensive glasses

Plus, they currently have a campaign called First Pair Of Glasses Free, which literally means that you can get your optical glasses and sunglasses for just the price of shipping and handling. Eye think that you will be excited to know that GlassesShop is generously offering my readers 50% off eyeglasses and sunglasses with free lenses with the code GSHOT50.  Whoa. What better accessories to have for fall than a good book, yummy hot chocolate, and a stylish set of new frames? Nothing. Well, unless it's the coat I'm sporting in this outfit.

Scarce of hot chocolate, I took my stylish set of frames on the hunt with me for a new juicy book to read. I'm getting a little nerdy in this post, but I have always been an avid reader. From fiction, my new favorite genre is fashion. Who wouldn't want to know the history of Chanel? Advice from Rachel Zoe? Relish in the photography of Giorgio Armani?

Statement coats seem to be all the rage right now, and when I laid eyes on this wool tweed jacket from Peter Som, I knew it was just the right over sized statement jacket that I needed. It's structured, but slouchy, and is the perfect coat to make you look like you tried, but not too much. In other words, it's a healthy balance of style, sophistication, and a mindless option.

Since I am on the hunt for a good read, I had this tank to showcase that I am fluent in fashion (or am rather teaching myself to be fluent. Who can keep up?). Paired with a simple pair of black skinny jeans, I adding on my ultimate favorite Franco Sarto booties / heels. These look so very European to me, and I say that in every post, but they just always strike me as very Paris school girl.

Last, but not least, is my trusty Kate Spade bag. It's the perfect size, style, and has the right functionality to be a purse that I take with me everywhere. From traveling to just bopping around the city streets, it's always right there with me.

So, what will you be reading with your new pair of glasses? Let me know in the comments below!

Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder

Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder by Step Inside My Closet - outfit post, Chicago, barney's new york, kate spade, lucky brand, nars, outfit ideas, the shopping bag, shopping, chicago spots, Michigan avenue
Hello There! Have eye mentioned how much eye love Chicago? Cheesy, but I couldn't help making those puns the whole day while in this outfit.

I've mentioned before how much I love street style, so I wanted to twist the usual boyfriend jeans and extra cool top and extremely adorable sunglasses that I've seen in those famous Tumblr photos and wear...a shift dress. It's comfortable, cute, and I never wanted to take it off (well, except when on a 5 hour airport delay...after I missed my flight...oops. You might already know the story if you follow me on Snapchat @SInsideMyCloset! Let's just say I wasn't back home snuggled in my bed until well into the wee hours of the morning. Yikes.)

This baby blue Eye-Catching Sleeveless Shift Dress from The Shopping Bag gave me some major fashion feels. The high collar makes it look so modern and the print had people all over the city stopping me and asking me where I got this dress! It's the perfect thing to throw on when you don't have the time to piece a full outfit together, but still want to hit the maximum style level. It's the perfect focal point that will have everyone's eyes on you!

I wanted to keep everything very simple and very comfortable with this dress due to the eye catching print (last one!). I've been on the hunt for a good pair of flats for a long time, even though I don't fancy wearing flats on the usual. I was smitten when I found this pair of nude Lucky Brand flats. The insoles are extra padded so it feels like you're walking on a mattress everywhere you go - I was super lucky to find these. Ok, enough with the puns, I know, I'm on a roll!

My go-to traveling purse is this black shoulder / hand bag from Kate Spade New York. The shoulder strap is perfect for when you're roaming city streets or hustling through the airport, and it's spacious interior is definitely a major plus. I'm a sucker for good basic black accessories and clothing - they take up most of my wardrobe. I just find it so much easier to put on the simple things - so when you really get all dolled up, it's extra special.

To sum this look up, it was the perfect outfit to prance around Michigan Ave. and Barney's New York in! Who else is a sucker for a good beauty department? I loved getting my makeup done at the Nars counter (even though I got a little bit too glammed for just a day out - but can you ever really be too glammed up?)

As I shopped around one of my favorite avenues in the world, I definitely had my favorite picks at each store that I stopped at. Hermes? The Hac Birkin 32 in black, obviously. Tory Burch? Junction Riding Boots (perfect for fall)! Jimmy Choo? Myth Suede Ankle Boots. YSL? Leather Biker Jacket...since I already found the perfect YSL lipstick! Chanel? Literally anything. Although, success is measured in whether or not you have a Chanel tweed skirt suit. I mean, at least for me...

What's your go-to street style comfy look? Let me know in the comments below!
