Background Noise

I've always been an extremely shy person by nature. Pair that sense of shyness with a striking sense of quietness all bottled up in a 5'2" frame and you have Ann. These features are often perceived as a sense of weakness - an easy target. I'm not the type to open up to a person right away, and am often always monitoring what I say, afraid of how it is being absorbed by the other person. In other words, there's a lot of background noise going on in my head. So many buzzing thoughts! 

However, once that cooling sense of comfort washes over a relationship, you find that there's all lot more bottled up than just a shy, quiet girl. I love talking (and talking, and talking. Just try and shut me up once I get going...hence how much I write.) fashion, food, and cracking sarcastic remarks to make people others smile. I have endured and encountered many situations and individuals who played a role in making my once innocent quiet nature turn into a shield, a cover from those with an unrelenting fascination with tearing others down. 

You know the ones, right? Everyone has encountered the mean girls / guys who forge their own self anger, jealousies, and pain and hurl it at those with an easy target on their back in hopes of themselves in turn feeling superior. What's often forgotten is that those are the people that are often superior in their own minds and the people that forget that down the road, the time they wasted spitting out bad karma will lead them nowhere in life.

In the moment, it's hard to realize that. The best, but most hard advice I received at times like this is that, karma will come back around to them. It may not come when you want it to, but what goes around will come back around. 

That being said, I learned to keep my head down and keep hustling. In the age of #GirlBosses, it is enlightening to see that hard work and determination pays off so much more than succumbing to your bullies. Feeling successful in what you are so passionate about doing is the most important thing to focus on in life. If the haters want to watch, then let them! They're just adding to your fan base.

As now a certified Health Coach (Yay!), I learned through my training to have single-pointed focus. Mute the background noise chatter and aim your focus on the goals most passionate to you - the rest will fall into place.

Rocking a confidence building outfit doesn't hurt either. I've paired my go-to essentials all together to make the comfiest, street style outfit. This body suit from Kendall + Kylie even has a cutout on the back, making it a perfect day-to-night core piece!

Bows & Lace

Spring looks good on New York - even if it lasts for 2 minutes. Spring is such an off season, for me at least. You can see summer just miles away, but still have the slightest taste of a bit of cold from winter. One thing I do truly love about spring is pulling out colorful sun dresses and sauntering around blooming flowers in Central Park. Add in my favorite Bow Bridge? That right there is pure bliss. 

This color block lace dress by Alexis makes me feel like I'm on an episode of Southern Charm. I love the flowing skirt and am absolutely obsessed with the neckline. Colorful lace is definitely an unusual choice from me and my go-to minimalistic looks...but who doesn't like going full on a girly for even just a minute? Now these shoes are full on glam, since the hail from the Kendall + Kylie collection. They are extremely comfortable, and the minimalist structure is just amped up by the suede material. Since open toed shoes are back in queue, my toes are all dazzled up in my Smith + Cult nail polish in the color Kundalini Hustle. It lives up to it's name, because it stands up forever and is definitely a polish I can hustle in for weeks. 

Seeing spring pop up and feeling the warm weather roll in made for a blissful week (scoring Harry Styles tickets was also an added bonus. SWOON!) This week, why not try going full on girly? There's no shame in turning up the volume on some obvious feminine fads.

Springing For Supreme

My eyes never opened up more to the true world of street style until I was introduced to Supreme. It's the mecca of all things streetwear, with a Soho vibe that just can't be beat. At first, I was skeptical of the brand - but now I am slowly starting to see why people line up days in advance for their weekly drops. I mean...have you seen the collab they did with Louis Vuitton? Total goals. My first purchase was beanie - but now I've claimed my beloved Lacoste x Supreme oversized sweatshirt..

A walk through Washington Square Park was made complete with this exuberantly comfortable outfit, fit for a springy day of total street style goals. My go-to basic black leggings matched up with my go-to Adidas Tubular sneakers. I could walk mile after mile after mile in these shoes - and that's no exaggeration. Should I use them for the gym? Sure. Will I use them to walk to stuff a crepe in my mouth? Yes, and already happened. The last thing to top this blackout look is my new Gucci cross-body bag. This is my life, my soul, my current prized possession. Maybe that's a bit extreme, but at the same time it's really not.

You know the trend that's white hot but so cold? The off the shoulder top. Take that trend and combine it with the trend of the body suit and voila! You've got yourself a season staple. This Tyene Off The Shoulder bodysuit is by Tobi which embodies sleek and sexy designs. Bodysuits are so effortless and such a life saver when you gravitate towards tucking in your tops like me. 

This top was tucked into my pair of gray and black faux leather leggings by Abercrombie & Fitch. These were perfect to break up this look and give it a twist, keeping up with the body-con theme. And yes, leggings are pants. ...At least to this pretty much basic white girl. 

Who isn't keeping up with the Kardashians these days? (come back, Kim!) Not only have I been keeping up with Kardashians - but the Jenners. These strappy lace up black booties are from the Kendall + Kylie brand. I can attest that these make you feel as though you have the power to strut down that catwalk just like Kendall. They're surprisingly comfortable and a Dream to look at. (Get it? No? Blac Chyna baby reference?) 

When you think of Kardashian...you think of Cash. This leads me to point out this chic 3.1 Phillip Lim Cash Only clutch. This clutch is definitely for the hustlers out there and Rhianna's Bitch Better Have My Money was rushing through my head while carrying it. Oh man, I am really basic aren't I? 

What's not basic but simplistically beautiful is this Evil Eye Necklace by Meira T. This is a necklace that I will never take off, as I deeply treasure it. Good evil eye necklaces are hard to come by, and I totally believe in the powers of what an evil eye can do. Keep away the evil and bring in the good. Karma, karma, karma, I love it.

Autumn Athleisure

Athleisure. A trend made extremely popular by Beyonce, Gigi Hadid, and more. It makes wearing upscale gym gear acceptable in all sorts of settings - and it's something I'm crazy over. At any given moment if I am not out and about you will see me in some sort of spandex / legging / workout ensemble. It's comfortable and is perfect for the exercise obsessed kind of person I am. 

But sometimes that spandex needs a break and the sweats need to come out to play. So how do you make sweats and athleisure super chic? You pick up this Brooklyn Fleece Sweater Dress by Tobi. I cannot begin to describe to you how comfortable this dress truly is to wear. It feels as though you are walking around in a night gown, but you're looking super Gigi/Bella Hadid-esque. The sleek zippers on the sleeves escalate this dress up to being a sleek and simple hipster, chic dress. 

Yes, I gave in to the Adidas Superstar craze - and I'm not regretting it one bit. Virtually every street style / model / celebrity / basic person has a pair of these sneakers. They're incredibly comfy and give you major street style cred instantly.
